One feature that we like most in Digiline Series is its ability to do almost anything using only contacts, so that when they are open or closed they will execute actions previously programmed by us. These contacts are called GPI (General Purpose Input), which take their reference (open, closed) from a contact called ?common?. With this, if we short-circuit one of the inputs to the ?common?, this input will be in closed mode, otherwise it will be in open mode.
These ?states? of the contacts are detected by the Digiline, so that when changing from one state to another we can program the device to perform the actions we want. To do this, previously we have to use the software WorkCAD Designer, to program these actions and record them on the device.
The best way to see how this works is with an example. So today we?ll explain how to program one of these GPI inputs to put the Digiline 8 in a state of EMERGENCY. This is a state in which all inputs are muted and only the input considered for emergency messages is active, and also all the levels of the outputs are adjusted to spread the message to all zones. And the best: we can do all this with a simple switch.The example consists of an office floor with 5 separate zones and 5 audio sources.
Thanks to DIGILINE 8 is possible to route and even mix the audio sources in the desired area.Each zone provides 150W of power for speaker placement.Each zone has an emergency push-button connected to one of the GPI inputs presents in the DIGILINE 8. When acting on any of them, emergency programming is executed, which activates the alarm in all areas and mutes all audio inputs, except the one that incorporates a paging/siren microphone.
It is important to say that this example of installation DOES NOT REPRESENT, IN ANY CASE, A COMPLET SYSTEM OF EMERGENCY subject to applicable regulations in this regard (eg IEC 60849, EN 54.16, EN 54.24) or other standards harmonized in each country. For this, more items must be added specific for this purpose.
The purpose of this installation is to show a configuration for DIGILINE 8 in which it pass, immediately, to a state of maximum dissemination of the message, in an instant and without delays.Connections scheme
The following diagram shows that the emergency buttons are all connected to the same GPI input and to the ?common?. This is because a short circuit (closed contact) of one of them would cause the junction of the GPI input and the ?common?, leaving the GPI input in ?closed? state .
Configuration with WorkCAD Designer
Once the system is connected, the device must be configured using WorkCAD Designer to perform the actions we want, that is, to put the DIGILINE in emergency state when pushing one of the push-buttons, and return the DIGILINE to a normal operating state when releasing the button (open state). To do this, the simplest is to store this two states in PRESETS. A preset is a state of the device as a whole, that is, a preset records the status of all the parts of the DSP, from the input levels in the matrix, crossover, equalizer...
We will generate a preset of ?Emergency?, that consists of storing the configuration that runs in the state of emergency: mute all inputs except the paging/siren microphone, and put the output to maximum volume. This preset will be stored in the last memory position (10 position).
The general operating preset will be stored in position 1, and the configuration we have done is this:
We now need to program the GPI input to run the preset 10 when passing to ?closed? state (emergency button pressed), and to run the preset 1 when releasing the button (?open? state). To do this we go to the tab GPI in WorkCAD Designer.Program GPI to execute Preset 10 in "closed" state
First select the GPI we are going to program, in our case is 1. For WorkCAD when a GPI passes to ?closed? state it means that it has been activated, so that in ?Events? select ?On Activate?. To write the action we want to perform we go to ?Manual Introducing Data? and type the next sentence:
where 10 is the preset previously configured for emergency. (All the sentences are available in the user manual)
Press the icon ?+? to display the sentence in the upper window.
Press ?Update GPI? to store the GPI.
Program GPI to execute Preset 1 in "open" state
To program the state of normal operation (Preset 1) we do the same, but the event in this case is ?On Deactivate?, and the sentence is:
We could not just write one sentence, but we could write a lot, so that the Digiline run one after another after changing the state in one of the GPIs. This offers many possibilities for many applications, such as a ?fade in? or ?fade out? levels of a particular channel, a volume up button in 1 dB steps and one for down...
That?s why a good travel companion of the Digiline is WGC 1, a contact panel that comes with a few stickers, so the user can write the corresponding function in each sticker.
